5th July – Elis James and Tom Wrigglesworth preview at The Pot Cafe

Tickets will be on sale from 1pm on Tuesday 28th June here:

Our first Edinburgh preview show sold out in under an hour so if you’d like to come, you need to strike while the iron is hot. The iron is hot at 1pm.

It’s going to be a humdinger. Come and see a preview of Elis’s new show:

A chance encounter with a celebrity, an accident at a wedding and the good old fashioned drunkenness of others make this show by fringe favourite James one to remember. This is another hour of hilarious, freewheeling storytelling from one of Welsh comedy’s rising stars.

“A complete joy” – Time Out

Tom isn’t taking a show to the Edinburgh Fringe this year but he is going to come and test some of the material for the second series of his BBC Radio 4 show ‘Tom Wrigglesworth’s Open Letters’. He’s at good at comedy as Beyonce is at singing.

MC Clint Edwards (has an allotment but doesn’t really fit the profile of someone you’d expect to have one)

Tickets will be on sale here at 1pm on Tuesday 28th June:

The Pot Cafe – 138 Crwys Road, Cardiff, CF24 4NR
£5.20 (20p admin charge thingy – it was the lowest we could get it)
Doors 7pm (Show begins at 7.30pm) – finishing around 10pm.

The Junket Club presents… Boyd & Metcalfe and Mark Olver

hot cakes at beach

We kick off our season of previews with two lovely shows that are previewing ahead of a stint at the Edinburgh fringe. Read on if you want to know what they wrote about themselves for blurbs such as this or just trust that we think they’re excellent and come along.

Tickets will be on sale at 1pm on Wednesday 22nd June from here:

Best Of Boyd & Metcalfe

Hackney New Act of the Year finalist Nathaniel Metcalfe and the delightfully off-kilter Chris Boyd join forces. Featuring song, dance and quite possibly a twisted tale or two, join them for a gloriously unique hour of silly, surreal and spooky shenanigans.

‘Glorious’ (
‘Brilliant and unusual and very funny’ (Josie Long).
‘The stuff of dreams’ (List)

Mark Olver: A Portrait Of A Serial Killer

A comedy about murder.
Mark Olver has a new show. It is sort of stand-up, sort of theatre and all sorts of scary. There will be actual violence in the show. Proper, no holds barred, real, no pretend, physical assault. In a funny way.
This is not pretend.

Winner of Best Debut Show at Leicester Comedy Festival 2011.

MC Clint Edwards (cheekbones)

Tickets will be on sale here at 1pm tomorrow:
£5.20 (20p admin charge thingy – it was the lowest we could get it)
Doors 7pm (Show begins at 7.30pm) – finishing around 10pm.

The Junket Club presents… a season of Edinburgh previews

Hello Junketeers,

It’s the summer again. It’s that time of year when you can wear linen and buy melons. It’s also Edinburgh preview time again. Hooray!

For the second year running, the Junket Club presents a season of Edinburgh previews. This is where comedians who are developing their shows ahead of the Edinburgh festival come and try out material in front of a beautiful audience (you).

This year they are taking place in The Pot Café on Crwys Road, Cardiff (nice) and will take place on a Tuesday evening (apart from one which will take place on a Wednesday evening).

Tickets will go on sale at 1pm one week ahead of each event from this merry place:

These gigs won’t have any of the usual Junket bells and whistles but they will be a great opportunity to see brilliant comedians trying out ideas for their Edinburgh shows. Each gig features 2 shows and costs £5 to cover the cost of the comedians’ travel.

28/06 Boyd & Metcalfe and Mark Olver
05/07 Elis James and Tom Wrigglesworth
12/07 Henry Paker and Josh Widdicombe
19/07 James Acaster and Sara Pascoe
20/07 Nick Helm and Horse & Louis
26/07 Caroline Mabey and Pat Burtscher

The gigs will be MCed by thrusting young stallion Clint Edwards (fit). We also have a new microphone. Come and see its slightly dented top.

30th April – Junket Wedding Special at Machynlleth Comedy Festival

Information here.

The Junket Club presents… DAVID TRENT

The Junket Club is delighted to present DAVID TRENT. He’s one of our favourite comedians of 2010/2011 and we’ve been looking forward to putting him on for a long time. He does great things with videos and there’s this very funny bit with a watermelon. As well as other very funny bits. He’ll be performing his show “Spontaneous Comedian”.

Also performing are sketch pair THE BEHEMOTH (John-Luke Roberts and Nadia Kamil) who are marvellous and will be returning to the Edinburgh Festival this year with a follow up to their critically acclaimed shows The Gently Progressive Behemoth and The Wisecrackin’, Mindsqueezin’ Behemoth which were funny and clever and featured Kate Bush.

The Guardian said that they are “The most exciting new comedians around, full stop.” Ooer. Full stop.

There will also be a raffle.

Oh my god it’s going to be good. In our opinion, the only appropriate way to mark Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s 38th birthday.

(once you’ve bought your ticket, please send us an email to with your postal address so that we can send you more information in the post)

Venue: Llandaff Parish Hall (This place is rather great. It has not one, but TWO pianos. (the entrance is in the car park at the end off Llandaff High Street)

All profits will go to the Monmouth Tea Dance charity. What they do is truly brilliant and inspiring.

It starts at 6.30pm and will finish by 10pm. Plenty of time for you to carry on to a discotheque. I’m sure Llandaff will have a discotheque.

12th December – The Junket Club Birthday Christmas Showdown

It’s that time of year again – early/mid November – and you know what that means. Tickets for the annual Junket Birthday Christmas shindig are on sale! Sort of.

As is tradition we return to our place of birth – an artist’s studio in Bethlehe…BARRY!

An evening of:
FESTIVE COMEDY! (or just comedy)
WINTER BARBECUE! (although we’re still in ‘discussion’ about the validity of this venture… there will definitely be food though, promise.)
MULLED WINE! (for sure. no question)
CLOVES! (see above)
CRAFT CHALLENGE! (yep. deal with it)
GAMES! (nothing weird)
MUSIC! (elvis related we should imagine)
(inevitably) SOME SORT OF BINGO!

There are limited places on this Junket (only 25 tickets). So it’s a raffle system again I’m afraid. All fair though. We genuinely have a hat.

If you’d like to come, e-mail thejunketclub at with the amount of tickets you’d like (either one or two). Please put “There is no greater man in Europe than Michel Roux Jr” in the e-mail subject line.

You have until 11.59pm on 26 November to do this. Then we’ll pull names out of our beautiful velvet hat and those chosen will be able to buy tickets online.

(Tickets will be £6)

Junket July Previews

It’s July!

*in case you don’t want to read everything down there and just want the facts:
Who: Gareth Richards (14th July) Elis James (21st July)
Where: Milgi Warehouse
Money: £3

June’s previews went splendidly in the woefully hot but wonderfully cushioned Milgi Yurt. So we thought we’d put on a couple more. This time in the less sweaty Milgi Warehouse.

GARETH RICHARDS: Stand Up Between Songs

Chortle describe Gareth as “exceptionally inspired” and if you don’t trust their opinion then Lisa and Ben saw him at Machynlleth Comedy Festival and thought him a “very funny man” with a “good chin”.

To make this the Gareth Special we’d always dreamed of, we have support from Gareth Brand.

The warehouse is fairly small and so to reserve your seat for Gareth’s or indeed both shows email us at

ELIS JAMES: Daytripper

We saw glimpses of this show back in December at our Christmas Junket and it was already incredibly good. He’s since been touring Australia and falling in love with a woman and we’re really excited to see where this monumentally delightful man has taken his ideas.

Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walked on the Moon on this day back in 1969 so surely walking to a comedy gig is the least (and yet probably best) thing you could do to honour this.

These gigs won’t have any of the usual Junket bells and whistles but they will be a great opportunity to see brilliant comedians trying out ideas for their Edinburgh shows for a rock-bottom price – (a suggested donation of) only £3.

The money made will pay for the act’s travel up to Cardiff, the PA and some sweet food of some sort.

The warehouse is fairly small and so to reserve your seat for Elis’ or indeed both show email us at

7pm – 9pm
Suggested donation £3

What’s This All About?

The Junket Club presents brilliant comedy in interesting places. Adventures so full of mirth that minds will be (metaphorically) blown. It's basically a blast. Better than free wi-fi.
